One of my several award winning author clients, V.J. Waks (Victoria), published the first of a new series of novels this fall in what a genre I would call Mystery/Fantasy and just was named runner-up at the London Book Festival (ScFi category).
Here is how the story is described in one of the reviews for it on Amazon.com -
"Set in modern England, Waks' story takes you down the rabbit hole into a dark and dangerous world where Lewis Carroll's Wonderland characters are far more dangerous and menacing. Waks moves the story along rapidly, with each short chapter actively moving the plot line ahead. V.J. Waks has a highly visual writing style, it is easy to see what the characters are experiencing. You can imagine how this story would be presented in a movie.
This is not a story for young children, but teenagers who read fantasy will get it right away and fans of Lewis Carroll will see their familiar settings extended in unexpected ways.
Readers of V.J. Waks' earlier books shouldn't be surprised that this one is quite different given its earth-bound contemporary setting, but they will see the same attention to details and unusual characters that make the Tau4 books successful.
Think of RabbitHole as fantasy-in-the-surreal-world that is all around us, with no elves or dragons, but with plenty of colorful creatures and shady characters with which to fill your imagination."
You can get to either the hard-copy or Kindle edition at this Amazon link.
One of the things I most like about my work is that I am learning something almost every day. For Victoria, that involved diving into my own rabbit hole that is the world of ePublishing.
